Fact: The same Survey Monkey comparable capabilities suitable for an RFI, will not serve the RFQ needs within direct procurement.

Further, ERP/PLM solutions, often containing key data elements for the sourcing event, are ill-equipped marry supplier information, part/item information, performance and risk indicators, strategies, and process in order to facilitate an optimum RFQ result.

For example... We understood the reality that spreadsheets are a large part of the part lifecycle for supply chain. In place of basic import of format, we ensured that our customers had the ability to leverage full import functionality (fields, formatting, and even formulas). This helps ensure that direct procurement can leverage and trust their cost breakdowns – and without the need to patch together quotes that have been emailed between parties.

What is your favorite feature of ASTRAS’ eRFx functionality and why?

"At Allocation we talk about our ‘GRID’ capabilities. The fact that customers can import an Excel spreadsheet, retaining formatting and complex formulas, shortens deployment time for any RFQ to a fraction of the time many are accustomed to. Further, I have found the ability to export ALL data captured within an event very useful for further data analysis, such as historical price trends by any contributing factor."

Tell us about any interesting applications of the eRFX functionality.

"A ‘supplier network’ where you are trying to find completely new suppliers is nice for indirect spend. In direct procurement, our customers prefer to invite known suppliers to events. Recently we deployed new functionality, which some customers are already finding success with, which combines the best of both worlds. Existing suppliers are constantly buying new companies, merging, or expanding their offering, yet buyers are not always aware of these changes. ASTRAS enables the supplier to see what upcoming events their customers are going to conduct, and ‘opt-in’ to compete. As such, customers can increase their negotiation position by having more participants, do so with suppliers that have a documented track-history with them, and further consolidate their supply base."
